Straw (in various forms) makes up a good portion of the Cowboy
Hats we sell in our store so we
figured we'd start a series that highlights some of the different types of
straw that go into our hats. We always like to give our readers and customers
some background information on the products we offer.
According to Wikipedia: "Straw is an agricultural by-product, the
dry stalk of
a cereal plant, after the grain or seed has
been removed. Straw makes up about half of the yield of cereal crops such
as barley, oats, rice, rye and wheat. In
times gone by, it was regarded as a useful by-product of the harvest, but
with the advent of the combine
harvester, straw has become more burdensome to agriculture”
However,
straw can still be used in many different ways including biofuels, rope,
sandals and...hats! And in our case, Cowboy Hats.
Cowboy
Hats made from Straw come in different forms. For example the ever popular Blue
Chair Bay Palm Leaf Straw Cowboy Hat, shown below, is made from Palm Straw.
Other
straw hats can be made from Raffia Straw, Toyo Straw, Shantung Straw, Bangora,
and others. We will be posting information about these different types of straw
over the next few months.
They could see each other all the time. There were no baffles around the drums, so they were just sounding out loud in the room.
